Do you need your oven door hinges repaired or replaced?
Stove Doctor is here to help!
The oven door hinge mechanisms used in modern ovens are separated into two parts known as the female (rollers or hinge supports) assembly and male hinge assembly. The female assembly is secured to the inside of the front frame of the cooker and consists of a set of rollers contained in a metal housing that accept the male hinge.
The male hinge is secured to the inner lower section of the main door and consists of a spring, hinge arm and single or double fulcrum hinge, fitted with a removal lock latch mechanism. The spring tension is pre-set on all modern oven door hinges to the weight of the individual door being used and therefore interchangeability between door hinges used on other size doors is not recommended.
The combination of these two components allows the door to achieve a good seal on the oven chassis, with the added advantage that the door can be removed easily for cleaning and maintenance by using the hinge lock latch mechanism.
The following problems may be attributed to a defective hinge:
- Heat escape
- Discoloration of surrounding door unit or fascia
- Oven under temperature
- Food not cooking correctly
- Door misalignment
- Damage to surrounding trims
- Door loose and not closing correctly
- Opens without any tension
- Squeaking or grinding noise
